Is there an age requirement for buying an engagement ring?

I would like to know because my 16 year old friend, in Louisiana would like to buy one for his girlfriend. It would seem that he's to scared to ask for himself so I'm asking for him. Thank you :) ~~~{@
No, when you buy a ring as long as you have the money they don't check your age.

Is $20,000 overpriced for:
1.75 carat, radiant, color: F, VVS1
Very good for symmetry and polish
Thanks for the feedback. I apologize, I should have added; the $20K is for the diamond, mounting and wedding band.
If you're buying them online, I suggest not.
That's NOT where you can buy a good diamond engagement ring.

Been a few years since I bought a diamond ring--is that just for the diamond or the band also? Seems a little high if it is just the rock--but not too bad. Probably on the higher end for a very high quality 1.75 carat stone.
