Rocks, gems, jewelry on display at annual show in Antioch

Since childhood, Antioch resident Brenda Miguel has been fascinated by rocks, but the self-proclaimed rockhound also enjoys the intergenerational aspects of her favorite hobby.
Miguel said she has learned so much from the five lifetime members of the Antioch Lapidary Club about the craft of rock cutting, grinding, shaping and polishing rocks at their rustic shop on Fulton Shipyard Road, where they meet three times per week and manage a museum.
"They have such knowledge. They are our teachers," the club's vice president said of the longtime members.
Since the majority of 35 active club members are seniors, they also enjoy introducing the hobby to the younger generation through local school visits and
community tours of the museum and shop. A significant part of the nonprofit's mission is to educate and conserve the Earth's resources.
